HIDDEN GAMBIA 2 DAGEN
DAG 1
Dit is een all-inclusive 2 dagen-tocht, waarmee je in contact komt met de locale bevolking, markten, de natuur, wildlife, vogels, moeras etc.
Ophalen is rond 7 uur (onder voorbehoud) We rijden over de South Bank Road en de eerste stop is bij de Brikama veemarkt en de groentemarkt waar je de kans krijgt om te zien hoe lokale vrouwen hun groenten van die de vorige dag zijn geoogst naar de markt brengen.
We stoppen voor het ontbijt in de prachtige Abcas Creek Lodge.
Geniet van de rust en de natuur van deze mooie Eco-lodge.
Dan vertrekken we naar de uitgestrekte provinciale trans-gambia via de snelweg naar de stad Soma.
Daarna gaan we naar Kudang waar we zullen lunchen met de mogelijkheid om lokaal Gambiaans te eten,
zoals:
1. Vis/kip Benachin (gebakken rijst of internationaal, bekend als als Jollof-rijst, met lokale verse groente.
2. De beroemde "Domoda" (rijst met pindasaus).
3. Kip "Yassa" met friet of rijst.
Pittig of niet pittig gekruid, dat mag je zelf aangeven. Gambianen houden van erg pittig eten!
Na de lunch rijden we "off-road" (op zanderige wegen) door de groene vegetatie, Afrikaanse gras-hutten, het boerenland etc.
Tijdens deze off-road zien we grote Baobab-bomen aan beide kanten van de weg als we stoppen voor een korte wandeling naar een moeras waar we een kleine Etnische groep bezoeken in een dorpje.
Je kan de Baboons, rode apen niet missen gedurende deze trip.
Eindelijk komen we dan aan bij de oever van de Gambia-rivier, waar we starten met een boottocht in het River Gambia National Park.
Zeven onbewoonde eilandjes zijn onderdeel van River Nationaal Park.
Je kan hier het leven in het wild spotten, zoals Chimpansees, Hippo's, vogels, Pelikanen (afhankelijk van het seizoen) en bij laag water ook krokodillen.
We overnachten in "Bansang river-side lodge".
DAG 2
Ontbijt en bespreking van de activiteiten van deze dag.
We brengen een bezoek bij een lokale familie om te ervaren hoe het leven op het platteland van Gambia is.
Daarna een gaan we naar een heuvel om van het uitzicht over de Gambia-rivier te genieteN. Dit is wellicht het hoogste punt van Gambia. Daarna gaan we de heuvel weer af en bezoeken we een lokale markt.
Daarna bezoeken we de enige veerboot in Gambia die met een kabel getrokken wordt. Het duurt 5 minuten om deze oversteek te maken van zuiden naar het noorden van de rivier.
We rijden dan naar Bansang en steken de brug over in Sankulay kunde naar Janjanbureh.
We maken een korte toer op het eiland van Janjanbureh en hebben de gelegenheid om de beroemde "wandelende bibliotheek" en Taka Titi, de oude verhalen-verteller te ontmoeten.
Historische verhalen vertellen onder begeleiding van drums.
Om beide zijden van de Gambia-rivier te zien, steken we nu over naar het noorden en bezoeken de mysterieuze steencirkels.
Als we op dinsdag gaan, kunnen we op dag 2 om de nomaden (vee)markt te bezoeken waar Fulani-handelaren uit Senegal, Mali, Guinee enz. komen.
Van februari tot mei, net voordat de regen komt, is het mogelijk om ook de actieve nomadenfamilies te bezoeken.
Geen permanente huizen, maar gewoon een eenvoudige, zelf gemaakte grastent.
Geen vast adres, dus we moeten ze vinden.
Begin een gesprek met de Fulani-nomads. Dan hoor je hun prachtige avonturenverhalen en het leven als nomade.
Lunch in het restaurant op de heuveltop van Kauren met uitzicht op de Gambia-rivier of lunch in de bush.
De rit terug naar het hotel stopt op prachtige plekken en lodges.
TOURTIPS.
Houd er rekening mee dat we meer kans hebben om nijlpaarden, krokodillen en pelikanen te spotten als het tij laag is.
Daarom kan het reisschema/schema van de boottocht enigszins veranderen (avond/ochtend), afhankelijk van het getijdenschema, om maximale tevredenheid over de reis te verkrijgen.
Er zijn minimaal vier personen nodig voor deze excursie.

DAY 1
This is an all-inclusive 2 day tour which brings you into direct contact with the local people, markets, nature, wildlife, birds, wetlands etc.
Pick up is arround 7am (subject to change) drive on the South bank road and first stop is at the Brikama open live- stock market and the vegetable market where you will have the opportunity to see an interact with local women bringing their previous evening vegetables harvest to the market.
We will stop for tea/coffee/ break breakfast (self) at the beautiful Abcas creek lodge.
Enjoy the quietness and nature of this beautiful Eco-lodge.
We then depart; pass by the sprawling provincial trans-gambia highway way town of Soma.we will then proceed to Kudang where we will have lunch,and opportunity to taste local dishes such as:
1, Fish/chicken Benechin (fried rice or internationally known as Jollof Rice served with locally grown vegetables.
2.The famous Domoda known as peanut sauce served with rice.
3.Chicken Yassa with chips or locally- rice.
Spicy or not ? make your choice. Gambians like spicy foods.
After lunch we hit the road again this time driving off-road through the green vegetation, African grass huts, farm lands, etc.
This off-road is dotted with giant Baobab trees on either side of the road, whilst stopping for a short walk to the wetlands and visiting the small Bambara(ethnic group) fishing village.
You can't miss the Baboons, red colobus monkeys during this off-road drive
Finally we arrive at the edge of the Gambia river, where we will begin the boat trip to the River Gambia national park. Seven un-inhabbited ilands make up the River Gambia national park.Spot wildlife such as chimpanzees, Hippos, birds, Pelicans(seasonal), Crocodiles (seen mostly low tide).
Overnight in Bansang river-side lodge.
DAY 2
Breakfast and introduction to the day's activities.
We will also do a community visit to experience the local family set up in rural Gambia.
Trek up- hill overlooking the Gambia river, perhaps the highest point in Gambia and then down-hill to the local market. Visit the only cable pulled ferry in the Gambia. This local 5 min ferry crossing links south/north of the river.
Drive through Bansang and cross the bridge in Sankulay kunda to Janjanbureh.
A short tour of the island of Janjanbureh and an opportunity to meet the famous "walking library" and aging story teller in the person of Taka Titi. Historian and story telling accompanied by the beating of drums.
To see both sides of the Gambia river, we now cross to the north, and visit the mysterious stone circles,
If we go on a Tuesday then on Day 2 it's pouring to visit the nomads livestock market where Fulani traders are coming from Senegal, Mali, Guinea etc.
From February to May just before the rains arrive, it's possible to also visit the active nomads families.
No permanent houses but just a simple make shift grass tent. No permanent address, so we have to track them.
Strike a conversation with a Fulani nomads. Then you will hear their beautiful adventure stories and life as a nomad.
Lunch in Kauren hilltop restaurant overlooking the Gambia river or bush-bush lunch.
The drive back to the hotel stopping in beautiful spots and lodges.
